چکیده

Redox reactions provide an opportunity to convert or store energy to power our increasingly technological society. In turn, phase transformations in solids and their reversibility are key to many functionalities. [ 1–4 ] This reversibility is typically linked to the specifi c mechanism, which, in turn, can be affected by kinetic limitations, such as those imposed by solid-state transport. An extreme example is the need to move electrons and ions within the structure of a battery electrode active material. [ 4 ]

Visualization of electrochemically driven solid-state phase transformations using operando hard X-ray spectro-imaging

In situ techniques with high temporal, spatial and chemical resolution are key to understand ubiquitous solid-state phase transformations, which are crucial to many technological applications. Hard X-ray spectro-imaging can visualize electrochemically driven phase transformations but demands considerably large samples with strong absorption signal so far. Here we show a conceptually new data an...

Nanostructured Single Crystals Sandwiched between Ordered/Disordered Coily and Rod Brushes

Single crystals of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-b-polystyrene (PS), PEG-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), PEG-b-polycaprolactone (PCL), and polyaniline (PANI)-b-PEG-b-PANI were developed from dilute solutions and thin molten films using self-seeding methodology. The PS and PMMA grafted chains were categorized in disordered nano-brushes; however, the PCL and PANI ones were grouped in ordere...

Electrodeposition of Mn-Co/Polypyrrole Nanocomposites: An Electrochemical and In Situ Soft-X-ray Microspectroscopic Investigation

Understanding the lateral variations in the elemental and chemical state of constituents induced by electrochemical reactions at nanoscales is crucial for the advancement of electrochemical materials science. This requires in situ studies to provide observables that contribute to both modeling beyond the phenomenological level and exactly transducing the functionally relevant quantities. A rang...

Quantitative imaging of ion transport through single nanopores by high-resolution scanning electrochemical microscopy.

Here we report on the unprecedentedly high resolution imaging of ion transport through single nanopores by scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM). The quantitative SECM image of single nanopores allows for the determination of their structural properties, including their density, shape, and size, which are essential for understanding the permeability of the entire nanoporous membrane. Nanos...

Nanoscale simultaneous chemical and mechanical imaging via peak force infrared microscopy

Nondestructive chemical and mechanical measurements of materials with ~10-nm spatial resolution together with topography provide rich information on the compositions and organizations of heterogeneous materials and nanoscale objects. However, multimodal nanoscale correlations are difficult to achieve because of the limitation on spatial resolution of optical microscopy and constraints from inst...
